MAS looks at nuclear opportunities 19/07/2010

The North West Manufacturing Advisory Service (MAS-NW) has been appointed the national lead to coordinate business involvement with nuclear opportunities.

It will provide information and guidance to small businesses seeking to take advantage of manufacturing involvement in areas such as infrastructure, maintenance and servicing, fuel manufacture, waste management and decommissioning.

Ultimately the organisation’s aim is to enable businesses to win new contracts in the sector through training and practical information.

Paul Fewtrell, Head of MAS-NW said: “The nuclear programme offers enormous opportunities for small and medium enterprises across the UK, and to maximise this opportunity, MAS-NW’s lead role as an honest broker will encourage and support new suppliers into the nuclear supply chains.

“However, urgent action is required to ensure UK businesses can compete effectively with international competitors to secure large elements of the supply chain and source products locally. Much of the support that currently exists is focused on the Tier one and Tier two suppliers through original equipment manufacturers, site operators, the Nuclear Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre and the Nuclear Industry Association, as well as those directly involved in supply of the reactor and turbine island equipment.”

A partnership between the public and private sectors, The Wirral Investment Network (WiN), plays a key role in initiating and supporting a range of projects to bring increased economic prosperity, physical improvements, and social benefits to Wirral and its surrounding area. It aims to make a meaningful and lasting contribution to Wirral’s economic success and the quality of life for its people.
